Cinema Advertising Film Classification
In Australia we have several different classifications for films, computer games, newspaper, magazine and book publications. These classifications are handed down by the Office of Film and Literature Classification board which is an independent body set up by the Australian government. The OFLC rules on this content under the guidelines set down in the National Classification Code, an agreement between the Australian Government and the individual States and Territories.
There are six different types of ratings given by the Classification board. These ratings are as follows:
G: General – the content is very mild.
PG: Parental guidance recommended – the content is mild.
M: Recommended for Mature audiences – the content is moderate in impact.
MA 15+ - Mature Adult not suitable for people under 15 years of age, under 15s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian - the content is strong.
R – Restricted to 18 and over – high level content.
X 18+ - Restricted to 18 and over - this classification applies to films that contain only sexually explicit content.
